I have tentatively implemented it on my Ireland Photos / Desktop Backgrounds / Irish Wallpaper site

(You can see the search box at the bottom middle of each page).

I am not sure I really like it - but it does add functionality to my site I guess..

It is also a bit of a nuisance that the minimum search results width is 795 pixels - so they don't fit into my standard site template...

I will come back in the near future with some results....

2. Aint tried this - but since I am only using the search feature to search my own site rather than the whole internet - I reckon it doesn't apply. (At least for now anyway)...

I have messed with this a bit more now, and it is actually quite good at finding pages within my site.

i.e. if you do a search it will return pages that have images with relevant ALT text (and my alt text is for each image is generally quite descriptive).

In view of this - I have put another search box at the top of all my pages (The box at the bottom was getting very few searches unsurprisingly - and I guess there is no point in having a search box if people can't find it...)

My only reservation for now is that Google can be quite slow at indexing new pages (It is currently taking 6 days or more between crawls)..

NB - I am talking about my Ireland Photos / Desktop Backgrounds / Irish Wallpaper web site if anyone wants to have a look..

Also - it is very interesting to be able to see what people are searching for on my site using the 'top queries' report in my Adsense account (not enough data yet to be of great value - but this will change over time)..

Good site in my view. Some fast comments.

1. Text at the top of the page. You know that Bots love (fresh) text. Have you tried to optimize the text part even better e.g. by a static part and a dynamic external feed part?
2. What about other foto related pages / sub site? You must have a fairly large traffic from similar searches.

I did experiment with putting more text on the page - but it really got in the way of the main purpose of the web site - the images..

I do have Irish Myspace Backgrounds & Layouts (From Ireland) and Free Ireland Screensavers as sub sites which use the same images - but the traffic amount and quality does not really warrant investing a lot of time in my opinion. Even Rupert Murdoch is finding it hard to make money from advertising to Myspace users, and there is not an awful lot of demand for screensavers as far as I can tell...

I approx 10 days there have been approx 1000 queries, some interesting, and some downright weird.... Why anyone would search for "Hair salons" on a photo / wallpaper web site is beyond me!

The earnings from the search box are not amazing.

It may, possibly, be lowering the income from the link unit above it slightly.

But having said that..

• It does add functionality to my web site.
• People ARE using it.
• It is giving me SOME income.
• It does give some insight into what people are looking for once they are on my site.

So I will be keeping it!
