Does having google ads increase traffic??

An SEO friend of mine told me that just putting google adsense onto your website actually increases traffic, or rather, google favours you because of the fact that you have those ads.
It there truth in this?
Has anyone noticed their search engine positioning go up after putting up google ads?

Probably in the early days it did help. The only thing really nice about adsense is that you may generate some extra income on the side for nothing.

If you consider selling out your potential advertising revenue to Google to be "nothing", you're probably not getting much to begin with

I think the answer is yes. Aside from what Google may do, finding which keywords and topics draw interest is a measurement of which parts of your site attract interest. While you can certainly get stats by other methods, I find the stats from the ads more valuable.

I also have a hard time believing that Google is pure at heart and that their rankings are totally devoid of favorable bias toward advertisers . . . All else being equal, it would only make sense that Google boost the rankings of pages carrying their ads.

Since I've added them to sites there's been 0 benefit to ranking or traffic... minor benefit on low content-volume pages as it lends filler.

The only benefit is that visitors to the site(s) click on them sometimes and when they do I get $ for it.

Defintely no. The only thing I would think of would be that it may provide Google information of your site traffic (if you don't have GA installed or your visitors don't have the Google toolbar), which may be one of the factors included in their algorithm. But for a business site I don't think that tiny (if any) impact is worth the the trouble of inciting your visitor to leave your site against a few cents.

What about scraper websites built entirely to paralyse adsense revenue model ?

It is more like whether you eat cake or not, you dont get paid for it

I always kinda thought it did...

Especially with a new site, putting google ad's on is a great way for google to go through all your pages for key words etc, they would be mad not to use this info as well wouldnt they?

I know I can't prove it or anything but can you prove they don't.....!?

I don't think having Adsense will increase traffic. That is ridiculous.

But it might help in getting your site indexed faster. I can see Google Bots and Google adsense bots using my php analytics, and Adsense bots come quite frequently.

Were that the case, then one would also expect that those site which display nothing other than, for example, Google AdWords listing would consistently rank at the very top in every category for which there are AdWords advertisers.

I would have to agree that I dont think it will increase traffic.

But I am also not sure if it will get your site indexed faster.

We registered a domain last week and just set up a parked page on one of our dev servers while the site is being built out. (why give the ad revenue, no matter how small, to Godaddy?). We put a logo, "coming soon" and adsense at the bottom. No content whatsoever. (the site is not interested in SEO as it will eventually be a Neighborhood website.

Anyways, a week later, and google has not indexed the site yet.

I setup a new domain a few weeks back and submitted my sitemaps to google and it was indexed the next day (no adsense used on the site).

That is my "scientific analysis"

visitors go out of ur website when visitors the advertiser's website

And it increases the bouncing rate when they leave your frst page through the ads
