Wrong Ads Showing
It may be as a result of my configuring my ads; however, I can't figure out what is going on. I'm trying to promote data recovery services for my company, using adwords. I have a ad group that targets 'Apple data recovery' and another ad group that targets 'RAID data recovery', as well as another group that simply goes for general 'data recovery'.
What I find strange is when I search for RAID data recovery, my Apple data recovery ad comes up. There is no reference to RAID in the Apple campaign nor is there the use of 'data recovery' without another keyword added to the phrase. I would expect, if anything at all, my generic ads might pop up, but not the apple campaign.
Does anyone have any experience with this happening to them? I'm really curious to know what I'm doing wrong.
My company's website is Professional Data Recovery Services by Recovery Force, for those who might find it easier to figure this out.
Thanks,
Luke

Re: Wrong Ads Showing
Hi Luke,
First, I would suggest that you utilize the Ads Diagnostic tool so that your repeated searches won't be counted as impression(s) and result in a skewed CTR rate. You can find it within your Tools menu. This will also tell you which ad had been chosen to be displayed from which campaign and ad group for the keyword phrase you had specified.
Second, I did not see an ad displayed for any of your keywords above because I'm assuming you may only be advertising in Canada?

Re: Wrong Ads Showing
Thanks for the heads up on the diagnostic tool. Yes, I'm limiting the search to be within Canada, for the time being. Here is what I get for this ad. I guess this means I need to call Google about this one.
Search domain: Google
Display language: English
User's location: Canada
Ad not shown | Reason: The user is located outside your campaign's geo-targeting area.

Re: Wrong Ads Showing
It would appear that instead of choosing "Canada" as my ad region, I chose all of the provinces and territories. So, for some reason, even though that covers the entire country, it doesn't necessarily mean it will work...go figure. Anyway, I think I have things corrected and working again.

For each Ad Group:
1) What are the specific keywords; and,
2) What type, i.e. exact, phrase or broad, are they?

A broad search on Google. com for "apple data recovery canada" shows one of your ads entitled "Apple RAID Recovery." Absent the word "apple," you are not displayed.
The broad search on Google. ca for "apple data recovery" yields the same result; a broad search there for "raid data recovery" yields your ad entitled "Raid Data Recovery."
Your ads seem to be properly displayed on Google. ca.
On Google. com, your "Apple ad displays where it should; but, your "raid" ad is conspicuously absent.

Re: Wrong Ads Showing
But ARE they really showing?
My boss decided he wanted to run a blog. He said: "Can I look at your blog to see how it can be done?"
I brought it up and noticed some utterly irrelevant adverts on my screen.
I gave him the link, he typed it in, pulled my site up... and got a collection of entirely different adverts which were all relevant to the subjects on the blog.
Incidentally, both computers use the same IP address , as we have multi-user broadband.
So what WE see on our screen if we use "view blog" might not be the same as other people accessing our site for real see them.

All ads, from all sources, are dynamic, based on a gazillion different variables, controlled by a bazillion different parties, all of which are subject to change at the whim of the controlling parties, and are automatically used to determine which ads get shown when & where.
What you yourself, or anyone else, see from one moment to the next is not guaranteed to be the same.

That's true.
But what I forgot to say was that the exact same wrong adverts had been showing up in my "view blog" version of my blog for at least a week, both on my work and home computer.
They were for diamond jewellery -I think- and had nothing to do with what was on my site.

Just as I said, unpredictable.
And, if you are using an ASP to host your blog, as opposed to hosting it on your own domain, probably uncontrollable as well.

In what way?
I looked at several blog options and Blogger offered me what I wanted. When I realised I could put adsense on my blogs I thought: "That's nice!" And signed up for it.

But, did they give you editorial control over what ads would be displayed?

Yes, because they offer the option to block adverts or to take certain adverts.

Well, if that's the case, then why would you be surprised at the presence of seemingly irrelevant AdSense ads being displayed on your blog?

You seem to have missed my point.
The irrelevant adverts were only visible to me using the View My blog option from the control panel.
When viewed on other computers out in the real world, the adverts were 100% relevant. I hope that clears up that point.

OK; that particular point is now clear. Which gives rise to the question, "As this thread is about AdWords PPC listings as displayed in response to a search query, what is the relevance of AdSense listings displayed in response to page content?
