I use Adwords for key terms I have not yet got in the No 1 spot on young Mr Googly.
I have set the Conversion codes into my pages and for a time it seemed to produce a realistic readout. e.g. I get an email enquiry for product, that product on my adwords account then shows a conversion. However I seem to also get conversions stated on the system but no enquiry email so I am wondering if robots can actually work through to the end of the process and effect my conversion statistics. Any Ideas...

It all depends on how you define "conversion." Part of the AdWords program sets the limits you want or choose, but Google possibly/probably will calculate things somewhat differently. The problem is that they cannot possibly always know when/if a click results in a sale. In some cases, it could occur months after your visitor reaches your landing page.

Thanks duncan, Seems I can only rely on the number of orders/enquiries that land in my inbox then.

Well. Richard, I have to repeat the word "depends"!! In other words, the idea that you "can only rely on" also needs to be tempered by how you've defined "conversion."
More particularly, you need to determine what happens when someone sends you an enquiry as a result of having clicked on your ad. Only if a click could immediately encourage the visitor to go to your shopping cart -- and this assumes that you have one -- can you really decide what your AdWord ROI happens to be. But even then, the visitor may choose to place an order at a subsequent time. Thus, overall you may have to simply depend on your memory and realize that someone who sent you an enquiry eventually gave you an order. Indeed, I think you can only measure the effectiveness of your ad by the extent to which you are able to recognize/enjoy an increase in orders. For instance, in my own case -- i.e. helping a buyer find and purchase a suitable property -- it can be weeks, months, or occasionally years before I see any commission. However, what I am able to do is make an absolute judgment that my AdWords campaigns bring me an ongoing number of enquiries and enough of them end up putting money in my pocket. Admittedly, the same situation applies in the organic searches that find my website, but I am an unabashed believer in the value of AdWords. There's a learning curve associated with them, but the return, in my view, has no equal in all the alternative ways to market ourselves and our products/services. Duncan
