I normally use http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ory/suggestion along with the AdWords traffic estimator to get a good idea about the popularity of keywords. And http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool to find out how much you need to bid to get near the top for the main keywords. The Overture tools give the figures for Yahoo! so you can generally double this for Google.
