Default Does adwords site advertising really work?

I was wondering if Adwords site advertising really work for merchandise. Since most of publisher use skills to attract clicks, like adsense: matching background color on website... Until now, after half years past, our site advertising conv. rate is zero. I was wondering if we will continue to do site advertising any more.

Does anybody here have good conv.rate?

Thanks.

Yeah...it depends on a number of things, like the demand for your merchandise, level of competition, ad copy, bidding strategy, optimization of your campaign, etc. You can make it work with a little tweaking of your campaign.

For the one paying for the AdWords, generally speaking, no, it's not worth. There are exceptions (I have read), however, I don't personally know of any.

I take it you mean content advertising? Not Google's search advertising.... I started writing a lecture there, good job a re-read your question.

In my experience I have seen it work in some instances. With tight control a postitive ROI can be generated but it takes a lot of effort and you have to measure customers over a long lifetime (over a year in some cases). There's too much spam around which just swallows the cash and genrally it's just not worth it.

My advice would always be to stop it by default and if you absolutely maxed out all your opportunities with search advertising (are your ads running all day?, have you tried Yahoo SM? have you split tested ad copy and landing pages?), then and only you may wish to have a careful dabble.

In which case you should:
Start a separate campaign(s) for content and track separatley.
Search for spam sites in your genre (use Google blog search) and exclude as many of them as possible before you start simply handing them your money.
Start with very low bids and gradually increase if you see a positive response. Always make sure your bid for a content keyword is lower than your bid for the same search keyword - if it is higher the content ad will appear on Google search, because it's not possible to opt of advertising on Google search.

Like I said it's usually not worth it. Google need to get tighter control on the websites they allow to carry the advertising....

I've not played much with site-targetting, would be interested if anybody has had more success with that?

According to Google´s study, Content and keyword search provide similar results. So in order to get a maximum return of your adevertising, you should use both of them.

On the other side the success of your AdWords advertising depends as usual from the choice of your keywords. If your keywords describe very accurately your content the content ads can be displayed in the right sites.

Last but not least, you can bid separate amounts on Keyword or Content. I usually bid 3-4 times more for Keywords as for Content, but still use content traffic. May be interesting to see what is the ratio other advertisers use.

Default Adwords can and do work

Pureapple- don't give up on adwords. Using adwords can be very profitable but you can lose a lot of money if you don't know what you are doing. I would suggest learning as much as you can about how to use adwords effectively. The keys to using adwords is knowing how to pick your keywords, having extremely grabbing text ads and knowing how to bid right.

I actually reviewed some of the best books on the subject of making money with adwords that are written by professional google experts. When I first started with adwords I didn't realize how much there is to know about how to do it right so you can make money. If you want to read my reviews go to my website- [Edited by Mod Webnauts: Duplicated posts are not welcome at WPW. Also for site reviews post at the "Submit Your Site For Review" Forum. I have only recently decided that Adsense may be a good direction to go, but I have been worried that I might lose a ton of money in it and I don't want to see that happen (obviously).

I have a set of keywords that I think will work fine, but what don't know are pointers on how to bid "effectively".

Jen,

If you haven't checked out "Google Cash" I would highly recomend doing so. It has a library of resources available on the subject of marketing on Google Adwords.

Good Luck.

Google AdWords definitely works. I would say also using the "content" option. Everything depends on the choice of your keywords and from the quality of your ads. Remember that content advertising can be done based on the keywords you have provided. I.e. if you are using very generic keywords you may not receive results neither from Search nor from Content advertising.

Don´t forget negative keyword..

Alex
