Default Google AdSense newbie questions

Hi there,

As some of you may already know, I recently created the Search Engine Friendly Layouts site in my signature and applied to various ad networks to supplement the costs.

My major goal was to land Google AdSense as the ad network, which was surprisingly easy. This leads to my first question:

1) The wait time between the time I received the address verification email and the time I was approved was exactly 13 minutes, 25 seconds. On the Google site, it said that publishers usually have to wait a week. Is my site really that good, or have Google simply lowered their standards to the point where pretty well anyone can get in?

2) For some reason, one of the advertisers that comes up is ecolumns.net . I suspect it's because my site discusses multi-column layouts, and AdSense picks up on the individual word "column" and focuses on it as opposed to what my site is all about.

ecolumns.net is nothing more than a scraper site, which I wouldn't want to redirect one of my users to.

Now...I know I can use the competitive ad filter to remove the site, but should I inform Google or will they care? If so, how?

Thanks.

" well anyone can get in? "
no, not yet Adam. but you only gave two options the other being "Is my site really that good," . . Adam I am all for positive thinking, but there could be other reasons..

Re - "AdSense picks up on the individual word "column" This can be a nuisance. what you need to do is hide words you do not want google to find. sometimes a Typo like 'co1umn c0lumn' can work. It can look silly sometimes. but the bottom line is if your user can read it - and google can not and the desired result is achieved. It is probably only your ego that suffers. On some sections of my site I have section of words in Gif format.

"should I inform Google or will they care? If so, how? " I would not give lesser site any thought whatsoever Adam. Sooner or later you will be kicking there ass as a natural process. Every minute spent thinking about them is a minute away from construction. Yes use the ad filter to remove poor adverts - (never knowingly serve your users Crap!)

I am just starting an Adsense wind down, In favour of my own displaying my own ads.

Fair enough, Tubby. That's what I'm going to elect to do. Thanks for the advice, friend. :)
