Adwords - step by step (beginner question)
Hi All,
Q1- let say you have 1 campaign which has 2 ad Groups. Does the % click through rate in one of them affect the other one?
Q2- let say you one ad Group and it has 20 keywords and only 7 of these are actually performing well and the other ones are not getting any clicks at all. Does the click through % rate for the ones doing badly would affect the overall campaign performance?
any info about adwords would be appreciated.. I would like to learn more about how to manage and keey an eye on these ads and to see what indicators to monitor..

re Q1: No, each ad group is seen as a distinct entity. There isn't anything that you could call a crossover effect. The main benefit of having more than one ad group is your ability to test different ones until you know which of them is going to give you the best results. And if, as may be the case, each ad group is aimed at a different product/service, there's no real reason why you can't keep any of them that are resulting in clicks.
re Q2: Your overall CTR figure is a calculation based on total impressions and total clicks, and it doesn't matter if some of your keywords are showing low percentages. Until recently, you could have keywords cancelled if they had CTRs below Google's "magic minimum" of 0.5%, but you can now retain them by agreeing to pay a minimum CPC that Google recommends.
But, as with Q1, you can experiment with different keywords until you find the ones that achieve the highest CTRs. However, again there's no need to get rid of any that are producing no clicks or even no impressions.
Apart from everything else, you should browse your way through the Adwords Resources Announcement at the head of this discussion forum. There's a learning process with AdWords, but several gurus have by now got enough of a handle on things to teach you what you can and should do.

Copy test
Junioronline,
the secret to improving CTR is to run multiple ad copy. Test, analyse, refine and test again. You'll eventually find blocks of copy that work well.
I've got consistent CTR scores above 20% from this approach.

sure read books and forums. However I suggest you can't beat playing the market. I also recommend running Adwords and Overture campaigns in parallel.
Overture has the better planning system.

in terms of click through rate in google - if lets say some keywords are showing 1% click through rate..and others 10% - How does it work in terms of management - do I remove the ones that are low? and if I dont, do they effect my over all click through rate?
any clarification would be appreciated

remove the lower end. Trial 3 types of copy. 1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line. Eliminate the weakest performers on the basis of weekly ctr.

Well, there is still your daily budget setup for the complete *campaign* (and thus, valid for all ad groups)
. If you have budget of 5$ a day and your well performing campaign spend most of that, you will not get any click more on the 2nd campaign. I would say this is an indirect influence of group 1 on group 2.
