Has anyone ever been able to use AdWords to get clients for web design and/or SEO and made an actual profit at it? What is the secret?

Jacob - I've never gone that route, but I recall reading an article recently, sorry I don't recall exactly, that said that market for any online ads, Overture, Google, etc., had the lowest CTR and conversions ... not sure there is a secret.

If you really want to go that way, I guess I'd have to guess that very geographic and keyword specific ads ... ?

I tried a lot of things in AdWords. I've tried getting some design clients, SEO clients, nurses, IT people, and other things. The only one that has worked was selling products. Services just don't end up turning a profit unless I have it so incredibly geo-targeted that it gets 1 or 2 clicks per month.
