I've been using adwords for over a year now and have always had my settings to display ads in both content and search. Just curious which tends to bring more sales.
I'm sure it varies, but tell me what ya know.

I currently manage several campaigns within Google and through the years have discovered that content matches yield untargeted traffic that Google is unable to effectively manage. We received a $4K monthly credit one month due to click-thru fraud encountered through their content matches. We've encountered no tangible evidence of a financial loss as a result of this decision. My honest opinion would be to eliminate "content" from your campaign(s).

I think that both are ok.

It's going to depend on the purpose and focus of your site, but the Content option seems almost bound to bring you a host of clicks from visitors who are mainly curious instead of having any strong interest in your product(s) or service(s). In contrast, the search ads are going to appeal to the potential buyers and clients you're looking for.
In my own case (though I'm not intending any self-promotion here), I usually have a CTR of 3.0 or better from a group of Search ads that are each aimed at people looking for information about my immediate geographical area. These are the only people likely to contact me for the help I can probably give them. Unless your market is the whole world (or significant portions of it, anyway) Content ads are, in my opinion, a waste of time and money. Duncan
