Default adwords traffic estimator tool

traffic estimator tool accuracy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On my google reports, for the search term 'sage line 100' in the UK, it says this month we offer a max CPC of £1, and our ave cost per click is 82p, with an average position of 7. However, if I put in these specifications into google's traffic estimator tool, it says that for a max CPC of £1 on a UK search I should be paying 48p per click and should have an average position of 2.8. I'm trying to use this tool to help re-evaluate my PPC campaign, but is it at all accurate? It is doing this a lot. We are currently bidding £1 for a certain search term and our ave position on the reports is shown as 11.4, but on the traffic estimator it reckons to get first position we only need bid £0.04 - I'm fairly new to all this am I missing something silly?! Thanks

It's very inaccurate.

The only way you'll know is trial and error.

I personally believe there is a spurious correlation between the results they provide and the results you ultimatly receive.

The different result occurs because there are variables the estimator doesn't tackle.

Do the best keyword research you can and give it a test drive. That's your best approach.

Good Luck!

Default Adwords traffic estimator

We have also found that Google's traffic estimator is mostly useless. I would have preferred that they give monthly impression estimates like Overture.

What we have found by trial and error is that you can use the results from Overture as a reasonable estimate for Google. For example the number of searches (impressions) for "keyword" is say 10,000 in Overture for the month of November we will estimate that to be the same for Google. So you can Google should generate also roughtly 10,000 impressions within +/- 50%.

That is the best we have been able to come up with when presenting proposals to clients. So far it has been good enough for them.

The estimator only give you very brief estimate. you can use that to conclude whether a keyword is "very popular", "popular" and "not popular". never trust the number.

gd luck
