Default Google's AdSense Search

I'd like to use Google's AdSense Search utility (with SiteSearch) but it just won't fit in my left nav (www.tabletennisdayton.com) without blowing out the width.

I've perused some of the Terms & Conditions (as usual, a tough read) but haven't yet come across certain limitations.

I know you can have the Google logo above the search field and the submit button below to help reduce the width, at least without SiteSearch enabled. But can the overall width be reduced to a preferential size?

And there are three Google logos, for white, grey and black backgrounds. None look very good against my #00CC66 (blue) background. I'd prefer to modify the logo with a soft white "haze" background and link to that on my server. Is this allowed? (Shyeah right)

Does anyone have an example of Google Search in a position that would be similar to mine?

Bill M.

What I suggest is that you make a new page on your site with the changes you intend to make. Don't modify the code, just the size of it so it will fit and the haze like you suggest.

Then email the Adsense team and ask their permission to use it (giving them a link to the new page). Explain what changes you made and why you made them. Usually, they're accommodating in situations like this, but you never know until you ask.

I would ask them and get their permission in writing first before doing anything--then if there's a question you can point them back to the email you got saying it was okay.

Better safe than sorry, you don't want to lose your Adsense account and all the money you've earned this month just over something like that.

Default Reduce Size of AdSense Search Box

It's easy to change the size of the search box.

Just look for the code line that defines the size of the input area:

<input type="text" name="q" size="31" maxlength="255" value=""></input>

Reduce size="31" to a smaller number such as "25".

Everything else remains the same.

BTW, if you want your site to be the the search target, when you get your AdSense search code, be sure to select SiteSearch option.

Cheers!

People can search the web or your site with that.
I use it mostly for searching larger sites with 200+ pages.

IF someone uses your search and clicks a sponsored link, you get a cut.

Don't count on a lot of income from this though. Again I use it mainly as a tool for visitors to search my sites.
And a good tool it is, and it's free, and the few dollars I have made from it is better than a stick in the eye. :)

It's a plus-plus if you use it as I do.
