Sure why not. Start slow and see if you make money on the traffic. Every website is different.

Did you know Google gives out vouchers to kick-start your AdWords account? So you can try it risk-free (and hopefully, from their point of view, find it worthwhile and continue).

It just so happens I'm running a little competition at the moment to give away a couple of them: Competition: win a £30 AdWords voucher at Hippo Web Solutions

Hi, before you go in with big money ensaure you set your daily budget to say $50 and then look at the response - people seem to miss the fact that if your campaign is successful at say $1.00 a click it is feasible that you could get 1,000's of visitors and blow all of your budget in one go without understanding what is happening. Those visitors may not even buy anything from you!.
Approach it with caution
Good Luck

Make sure to set your budget as stated above.
Then test, test and test.
However, dont expect a miracle.
To spend $1000 and expect $5000 in profit would be great, and can be done. However there are far too many unknown factors to consider in a statement like this.
If it was this easy, everyone would do it. Why not just spend $100,000 and make $500,000 profit (sounds like an infomercial)

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true.....

Spending $1000 on adwords correctly will deliver visitors to your site. That you can count on, beyond that, its all up to you.

I have used Adwords to promote a free daily devotional mailing list sign up. The results were very good. My focus was on building an email list for a particular niche.

I have a rather large list of subscribers.

It has turned out to be profitable because everyday I post affiliate products in with the daily devotional. Cha ching!

It cost a few dollars to build the list but, I am getting a return on my investment everyday.

We use many different forms of online advertising and many really aren't that profitable. However, Adwords consistently brings us quality traffic that does convert well. You just need to target the correct keyword terms for your market.

Why not give it a try. And while you are at it, try Yahoo Marketing as well. They can have a better ROI and you may be able to get away with starting your cost per click lower. But keep a close eye on your campaigns.

Testing is very important before commiting to any ad campaign. You need to get a handle on your conversion rate not just the quantity of clicks.

Personally I have not found it to be profitable. Typically the advertising costs more than the sales that I receive, so I don't do it, but other people in my industry have been doing it consistently for years. It all depends on how you conduct the campaign, typically speaking the more generic the keyword the lower your conversion rate and the more it costs to advertise to acquire a sale, the more specific the keyword, the less you will see traffic coming in but GENERALLY the cost to advertise is much less per customer acquired.

Hi,

Definitely, Adword is worth a try, however, only test can tell you whether it works for you or not.

Yes Adword can be a better option for driving traffic for your website but you will have to choose most appropriate keywords which can bring targeted traffic for your website having good conversion ratio

The great thing about adwords is that it produces instant targeted traffic, which is crucial if you are still trying to establish your organic search results. You do tend to get a lot of hit and run traffic if you use too broad of keywords, but if you know your market and can narrow your keyword scope, your overall costs will come down and your ROI per click will increase.

Before you try out Adword, I think you should do organic search listing first if yet no done and try out implementing other marketing strategy to make your website competitive.

I don't have successful experience with Adwords. Got people clicking but simply no sales.

My advice is if you want to commit to Adwords be prepared to lose money especially when the clicks does not convert to sales.

Adwords is just like any other form of advertising.
If it is done incorrectly you may not get qualified traffic and lose money.

This is like saying that television advertising doesnt work because you created a commercial targeted at new moms and decided to air it on late night TV.
An audience is viewing your commercial, it is just not the right audience. (Maybe you can target new moms on morning or afternoon talk shows, not late night.) You can not say that Television Advertising is a waste of money because of this.

Google would not be the massive multi-billion dollar giant that it is if their AdWords system did not work.

It is just much more competitive now than it was 5 years ago. However it is still one of the most cost effective methods to attain business for many industries. Not to mention the wealth of data that can be measured (compared with other forms of advertising).
