Hi,
I started a new Adwords campaign 2 weeks ago and it was going ok, but not amazing. The landing pages were exiting pages within my site, and I have now decided to create custom ‘standalone’ landing pages. I think that using exiting pages may have caused people to either navigate away from the form, or just pick up the phone (as the companies phone number is on the main banner image), therefore making it difficult to judge the success of the campaign. The landing page (here) is very simple. However, I’m now worried that it may be over simplistic and lack information that people may be looking for! Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. ------------------------- Dave |

DVDStar,
If you are going to put in information like a phone number, I am a big fan of telling people why you want it. For example, one of my sites is an e-learning site. I ask the users for their first name "So the teacher knows what to call you" and their e-mail address "so we can send you your results" In my experience, the more clear you are with what the purpose is, and is not, it reduces friction. When I saw the phone number, I understand your purpose, you want to follow up, but from my purpose as a customer, I don't want to be telemarketed. Make sure you really need the information you are requesting, and help the user to understand why. I have to admit, I completely ignored the left column of the screen, since I thought it an advertisement, and not part of the landing page value proposition. Now that I am looking at the left column I see it has some value, but I wasn´t clear about that, and I would have jumped immediately, since it looks like a contact page. One suggestion Marketing Experiments did a couple of webinars on Landing Page Optimization. You can get to them at: Web Clinics If you scroll through the list you will see some great free webinars that include Optimizing your Landing Pages part 1 and part 2. They might be helpful. Also, once you get pretty close, you might try using Google Web-optimizer to see variations on graphics and copy and how they perform in conversion. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out for you. |

Why are there required fields? There is no CC so you basically should just be looking for a means to contact them. I always take any form submission provided there is one of either email or phone. Especially with PPC because ya pays whether you get the lead or not so... Anything else is gravy and makes closing the sale that much easier. The verfication field is IMO, just an impediment to conversion and AFAICS, has no function other than to stop bots. IMO, just one more thing that gets in the way.

Chrisjumbo,
you stole my thunder. Nothing turns off site visitors like poor spelling. It's "literature" in the UK as well. Dave, I suggest you enter some sample prices or a lead in price.

Quite frankly, the test landing page looks like an end point, rather than a beginning; it tells me nothing about the products or services being offered, yet asks for information which presumes that I know such.
The various pages linked to in the menu on the left rail seem to be far more appropriate for use as specialized landing pages for a PPC campaign.

I agree with ChrisJumbo, focus on the product, with a link to "Send me a quote NOW" leading to a page with your submission form. Take a look at (competitor) usb-depot dot com. They show many of their popular models on the landing page, spurring the imagination, getting the viewer to think in terms of "what would my company logo look like on that?".

Call to action - people need to be told what to do.
Simplify your data capture and perhaps add another like "sign up for our newsletter for more special offers". Give aways also help to secure your data captures.

And lost interest, if there is no price mentioned it probably is very expensive. At least that is the way I feel about 'no price'. There is enough info to interest people so that isn't really a problem.

so I looked at the site from home page... The one thing that is to me most important is PRICE before contacting a seller. what price the bare drives as shown? (with price for each capacity ) what are your artwork supplied prices for different quantity's? 100,200.500,1000+ I'm sorry to say without this information I would not stay on your site for more than a couple of mins & search for other sites which did have some sort of pricing information. If there were a few with high prices I might come back. also very important is a contact tel number so after looking elsewhere getting my prices I could call to give you an exact specification for price. This would have to be VERY good as I have already done my homework on other sites. better to have it all there for me to compare as part of the first 3-4 I look at. one thing that is slightly off subject but I have found to be important when buying any type of flash drive is that they should have a write protect switch. I say this from experience when using in an internet cafe or on a computer not owned by yourself flash drives are not protected against viruses & other malware which will cross to the drive without your knowledge and to your home computer which if protected by anti virus software will find them (about 50 I got from one place) ! so I will only buy one for use other than on computers that I own with a physical switch on them (like the protect switch on a 3.5 inch floppy disk for those who are not sure what I mean). |

But, action toward what end?
The proposed landing page provides no information in that regard, but assumes that the visitor is familiar with the products and/or services being offered.

Hi, just as an aside - I always consider the value that any page within a site adds regarding content and noticed you have no HTML tags in the source or on the images nor a site map link. Maybe not your objective, but we know the majors love content!
Great advice from the other good people on this site. Best wishes, David David Mears web site Design, Optimisation, Marketing & Music Last edited by dgm2006; 06-18-2008 at 05:58 AM. Reason: link not working |

You are selling PROMOTIOINAL USB drives to people who want to put their names on them and be able to offer them as a giveaway
Get to the essence of your offer speaking to the person buying them. ie Get these great Low Cost High value giveaways why these are better than others Why buy them now Why buy them from you The page looks like Best Buy - Selling small electronics. It should speak to people who use Giveaways. Andrew Foss |

I have been looking again at you site makes me think it is a good idea to give drives as a promotion, but I still do not have the remotest Idea to the cost. I am not going to contact you as I do not want to be on your mail list, or be embarrassed not to order when I find you are out of my price range. like selling car xxx for sale nice condition call 000000 no way will I call.you are wasting my time & yours as probably a very high price otherwise would be stated.

Well done on your gurella marketing tactics LOL
You picked a highly correlated forum to your customer base.... You do need to give some low ball parks... PS: I too was interested in maybe distributing our catalogs on them. But need to know the price. |
