Default Destination URL

Can someone enlighten me as to what the difference is between defining a destination URL specific to a keyword and defining one for an ad in Adwords? I realize that this allows me to direct traffic either to a page optimized for a keyword or an ad, but how can Google calculate a quality score for a keyword if I have 4 different ads showing for it going to different landing pages that are optimized for the a better conversion rate for the ad not the keyword. Does Google recalculate the quality score every time an ad gets clicked or does Google use an average of the quality scores for each page?

Also, is there a reason why I can enter a different destination URL for the keyword and the ad at the same time. Google seems to send traffic to the URL listed for the keyword. The strange thing is that sending traffic to a URL that is not a version of the display URL should violate Google rules on display URLs if I understand that correctly.

Google just never ceases to startle me.

Oops, I posted in the wrong area. Please move to the Adwords subfolder in the Google discussion forum. Thanks.

The answer is often found in the question:

It kind of doesn't make sense to have a single ad group for 4 completely different landing pages. With different I mean,.. 4 different subjects and not 4 different pages that have the same subject. (which you could use for testing different landing pages).

The quality score is more related to the relation between keyword, ad(s) and landing page(s) than to just ad-landing page relation. I'm now just guessing, but it would make sense if Google would base the quality score on the lowest possible value.

It is there to make it easier on the eyes of the surfers. do you think a url like "http://www.webproworld.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=333820" would look better if it appears in your ad words ads to the surfers, i guess not.

secondly i think you should listen to this radio show, Perry Marshall on using Google AdWords, it will answer some of your questions and give you some new ideas on the subject

Instead if you add few url's enabling your visitors to access core element of your site with accurate information as per the keywords will worthwhile IMO.

How has everyone success been using various landing pages? Do you see different results depending on e-commerce versus service oriented sites?

I have not had much luck with multiple landing pages. The few time I tried them effected my quality score and my low bids went through the roof.

Google now lets you experiment with An A - B Split.

It is basically comparing 2 or more pages with different design patterns / copy to compare which one get more conversions.
