Default Help with pricing!

I am a newbie and just finished this flash site. I really need someone else's opinion on the pricing ball park.

Hourly won't work because most of my time was spent in the learning curve. And since it is very personal to me, it is difficult for me to objectively assess the site.

Please check it out and let me know what ball park to start in.

Been doing html for a while but very new to flash and this is my first completed site. I have read the posts to the other newbie price list and that sounds good and is helpful, but would appreciate a personal look.

Default good site

Hi Roxanne...

I really enjoyed your site...design, layout, colors and fonts were very eye appealing...
normally I click off of websites with background music... you should put an option in there to stop the music;)

As far as the pricing ballpark goes 1k is usually what a nice site like that cost's doesn't it? And something to think about... if you have a good accountant you might be able to talk to them about this... Donate your time @ $100.00 per hour since it's a church and you said you spent a majority of the time on the learning curve... so if you spent 30 hrs on the site you'd get a $3,000.00 write off at the end of the year... (just something to think about...)

*disclaimer... I am not an accountant and can't be held accountable by the IRS for any statements on WPW :)) LOL
Cheers,
NeO~1

Roxanne,
For your first full Flash site. I am pretty impressed. Great job.

For price, you need to look at the overall complexity of the site. What interactive elements are used and how detailed the developemnt process was.

If you look at some of the Flash templates online, your site would run at between 600-800 for a site with that kind of interactivity. As your experience level grows, and the complexity of the animation elements increase, you could easily get a couple thousand for a full Flash site.

Again, great job. Best of luck to you.

Personally I would say the text on the main page is really lame and unoriginal and very window like kind of font... Another thing, it took ages to load on my 128K connection;

Apart from the splashpage which can be improved the site is great and clear; I would personally ask 700 Euros;

Hope that helps;

Sam

Hi Sam,

The main page is clear, simple and easy to understand, which is exactly what a home page should be. The reason that the page took so long to load is that the site is flash and so you have big files to download. Not so bad on broadband but on a 128k modem I guess that it would take ages.

And for Roxanne, I must ask the question why flash? Long downloads and not all users have flash installed. Why not just use html, especially as you have an html option on the site.

Regards

Steve

Hi, I really like your site. The only comment/suggestion I would make is that I wasn't expecting to be taken "off site" with your FAQ's. I certainly understand that you might not want to redo what is already available from another site, but in my opinion the International Church site doesn't compliment yours. I would suggest that you put together some basic information on your site and then provide an optional link to the International site if people want more information.

Also, I agree about with the earlier comment about music, but I see you have addressed that already!

On the whole, your site looks great and even makes me want to learn flash.

Cheers,

Default Good First Site

I think the overall site is well done. Ditto on the <Music Off> button and offsite redirect.

Flash is still somewhat of a commodity, I think basic html sites are worth about $500, flash can net upwards of $1,000. What you ask depends on your relationship with the client. I'd go for $800 - $1,000.

PS: I understand the learning curve, I recently redid a site with Dreamweaver (I'm still a newbie) and it took me about 20 hours to complete..needless to say, I only charged $500. It's not their problem/fault that I didn't know what I was doing!! I look at it this way, how long would it have taken me had I known what I was doing, that is what I base my charges on.

Good Luck!

Its an old joke but here goes.

The flinch test. When asked by the client for a price, quote a reasonable price. Let's say $500.00. If the client doesn't flinch; add per page.

The first page of the site with four square icons is quite promising. The actual site, however is somewhat obvious that this is your first time flash project.

Pricing... Should you talk business before you deliver? Like someone said, name the price that you feel is right for you and make an in-kind donation. Make sure to get a receipt and claim it during next your tax season.

Everybody's happy!

Just a word about donated time to a church as a tax deduction -- it didn't work for me. I built and continue to maintain a web site for a church and after the first year I turned in a request to them for a reciept for the value of my time and they said they could not do that because if they did they would have to do so for every Sunday school teacher, and everyone else who volunteered their time to keeping the church running. They did send me a receipt for the value of the "hard costs" such as domain name registration and the hosting fees but said that was the best they could do. Anyone else out there able to claim donated work to a church or nonprofit as a tax deduction?

Straight up answer $1,200.00 in this area.

Lots of part timers available, Navy, NASA et al. in the Tidewater. But the site is well done.

I rate this site as a brunette from Westchester; you are going to have to pay attention to her, but she isn't "high maintanence". The Easter page obviously, needs attention, the site won't self destruct while you work on it.

I think you have a good site, that should earn $2,500 to $4000 a year in maintanence.

Get the cash and then make the donation, by check. IRS won't argue.
