Question Help Adjusting Background FLV

I am right now working on a new site that uses a background SWF and FLV video. I know I can optimize it better, but what are some proper techniques for encoding the FLV file so it doesn't take a sheer demand on the computer video card?

The link is here: Sea of Jazz - The Beauty of Ocean and Music Combined

Thanks for all of your help.

To clarify my post, I'd like to add that this is optimizing it for playback on the client side (not exporting it on my computer). Thanks for the help, cheers!

I've never bothered to attempt fullscreen playback like this, mainly because the quality would have to be so low in order to achieve decent playback.

I had a look at your link, and on me reasonable Apple G5, I'm getting like 10fps at fullscreen - acceptable fps when I make the window about quarter size.

Are all those square dots part of the swf or part of the flv?

The square dots are part of the swf.

Have a look at this site: Byblos discoteque, Pore?, Croatia - house music your music

It looks like they're utilizing the same thing, but quality and flv playback is fairly decent. I can't help but think what they're doing different in comparison. Any ideas?

Well that site crashed my browser after the intro.

Their 'dots' are part of the flv so I bet that's part of yr problem. Also, those falling diamonds are in grayscale (only 256 colours to process vs. millions).

Also, their flv is quite a short loop.

I originally thought it was short, too. But I noticed that after I let their page sit for a while I went back and it looks like the FLV kept loading...I timed it and it looks like the loop fully loaded lasts over a minute!

I am going to experiment with a smaller colour palette, though. I am also going to try rendering the video at 15fps instead of 30fps. However, I still get the feeling I might not get the same effect as theirs.

Try with and without the overlaid dots too.

I suspect they're a big part of the problem (unless you can apply them directly to the original mov (I use After Effects for that kind of thing).

What is see on seaofjazz.com is still pretty slow. Not acceptable for users!
