I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the flash on Targets site Welcome to Target
i have seen this on other websites as well. It scrolls thru 3 different pictures with the pause button to the right. If anyone knows how or where I can implement this to my own site I would appreciate it. Thanks

It would take me like 10 minutes to build that in flash. It's just a really basic flash movie, and could easily be copied by any flash developer.

I hoped the thread of this topic would provide one or more tutorials that showed/taught us newbies how to accomplish things that "would take me like 10 minutes to build". As is, I will never be able to build it because I don't know how -- and don't have a resource to learn from.

It's basic flash and actionscript, once you know flash and actionscript! So, it definitely isn't simple to a new developer. Anyway, great tutorials can be found at gotoandlearn.com - Free video tutorials by Lee Brimelow on the Flash Platform. These are extremely well written video tutorials from an Adobe employee. Also, you can go to Adobe.com and check out their actionscript developer's page. There you will find a downloadable zip file of flash apps. Included in the file is an image viewer example. Also, checkout kirupa.com - Tutorials. Between these three site you will find exactly what you need and much more.

I'd suggest buying something like Frontpage Slideshow . It's an awesome script and it's pretty cheap considering what it does.

I'd like to see the page headings stand out somewhat more.

If you want to buy an app, then go to Flash - FlashDen
You register, deposit $20.00 bucks via PayPal and you can probably purchase 2 or 3 quality apps for that much. Check it out you won't believe what these flash developers are selling dirt cheap. |

Have a look at the "Flash Components" gallery at Search-Scripts.com. It can be accessed at Search Scripts Directory - Flash Scripts & Applications developed in Flash
There are many free and commercial flash components to create the slideshow with just basic XML configuration without any knowledge of Flash. Sincerely, Ajay Chadha (Director) Chadha Software Technologies

I recommend taking a look at SwishMax too. You can make regular Flash animations with it and the learning curve is a lot less steep than Flash's. There are lots and lots of effects built in, so there's no need for actionscript to make for instance the transitions you see on the Target site. Actionscript is possible though in SwshMax. I use SwishMax to make the more simple Flash movies (90%). For really complicated and script-heavy stuff I use Flash.

Good point. Why spend hours and hours learning a completely new software and programming language when you could just pay someone 25-50 dollars and be done with it? Unless you were planning to continue pursuing the skill, then this may be a good project to get your feet wet.

If you want something drop dead simple that won't cost you the earth, is easy to use and has the backup of a major compnay, just go to CoffeeCup - HTML Editor, Flash & Web Design Software - they sell flash animation software for about $35. Its not up to the professional flash making standards of Abdobe CS3 et al, but it will take you between 10 and 20 minutes to learn to create your first flash animation with it. My grandaughter, who is only 7 has figured out how to use it - thats how simple it is to use!
There is also an excellent piece of software made by Motion Artist go to Smith Micro Graphics - Poser & Shade - 3D Design, Modeling, Rendering Software, Flash Animation Software, Templates and Tutorials and look up Motion Artist Softare. Its about as easy as it gets and is entirely drag and drop and then you select the kind of flash effects you want. Click a few buttons and its done. Again you will be limited to what the software can do, BUT it is outstandingly good stuff for the money. Why bother to learn how to handle flash manually, when with this software you just don't have to? Its as easy to use as a word processor package. |
