Interactive demos

Hi,

I want to create few interactive demos which can helpful for kids to learn subject fast. e.g. Maths related examples with explanation and visual effect.

I have programming knowledge of Java/J2EE language but I do not have experience in designing and animation field side.

Can anybody guide me on this how to create sample demos OR point me to an url where sample application with easy-to-learn tutorial is available ?

I also want to know if any open source technology available in this area?
