Timer-controlled playback
I am trying to control the playback of a tutorial I am building in Flash 8 Basic. I want the user to be able to go through the tutorial in two ways:
1) by manually clicking forward and back buttons; and,
2) by clicking a "PLAY" button and having the tutorial drive itself.
It's this second method that is killing me. Here's what I'm trying to do:
Each step, or page, of the tutorial is set up on a different frame.
I want the automatic playback function to rest on the current frame for about 10 seconds, then move on to the next frame and rest for about 10 seconds, and so on. This I can probably handle. It's controlling the interval that I need help with.
If the user decides 10 seconds is too fast because he's still reading the content when it switches to the next frame, I want him to be able to grab a little handle on a slider that I built and drag it to the right to increase the interval, thus slowing down the playback. Vice-versa for the user who thinks it's too slow and wants to speed it up -- he will drag the slider to the left to speed up the playback. (I have another post regarding this slider, if you'd rather help me out with that.)
Additionally, I would like to have the "step forward" and "step backward" buttons (used for manually stepping through the tutorial) move the playback head as they would when in manual mode, but without turning off the automatic mode. That is, if it's playing and the guy misses something, he can hit the back button which will take him to the previous frame and he'll have 10 seconds to view the page again. (To control the autoplay, I have a separate "PLAY" button, "PAUSE" button, and "STOP" button, the latter stopping the whole shebang and sending the playback head to frame 1 of the current scene -- sort of a dual-purpose button.)
Anyway, the actionscripting behind this is just too overwhelming for this novice ASer. Can somebody give me a hand?
