HTML Link loads specific frame

I have a Flash navigation in the left frame of a two frames page which loads HTML pages in the right frame. My nav buttons gray out and become inactive when the page they call is loaded. Is there a way to call a specific frame in the movie from links in the loaded pages such that no matter which page you jump to - even if they are called from the right hand pane - the navigation bar matches the page loaded?

Right now, if I load a new page from an HTML link in the right pane, my navigation movie in the left pane doesn't change. I would like for it to go to the specific frame in the movie containing the grayed out nav button matching the newly loaded page.

Macromedia Flash5 help alludes to the possibility in ActionScript Reference by saying:

To control a movie in the Flash Player from Web browser scripting languages such as JavaScript, VBScript, and Microsoft JScript, you can use Flash Player methods—functions that send messages from a host environment to the Flash movie. For example, you could have a link in an HTML page that sends your Flash movie to a specific frame.

The last line is exactly what I want to do but it doesn't say how.

I am new to this forum and went through ten pages without finding any post addressing a similar need. So... either this has been done so many times its not even discussed anymore (high probability :o ) or I am going around the block to get next door (only somewhat lower ;) and there is a much simpler and easier way to do this.
