Audio Solution for Stop then Start with Loops and Navigation
I was baffled and perplexed for a day and a half. Googling, WPWing, tutorialing, and more.
What I had was a movie and audio that began at Frame 0 (F0).
Then, at Frame 20 (F20), the movie stops, the sound continues, until a button is pushed, which stops the F0 audio and starts the movie with another audio at F21.
Then, at F40, the movie stops, the F21 audio continues, until a button is pushed, which stops the F21 audio and starts the movie with another audio at F41.
F0 ----- F20 - F21 ----- F40 - F41
F0: Begin F0 movie and F0 audio
F20: Stop F0 movie, continue F0 audio
F21: Begin F21 movie and F21 audio
F40: Stop F21 movie, continue F21 audio
F41: Begin F41 movie and F41 audio
Going from F21 back to F0 stops the F21 audio and starts F0 audio as expected.
The problem was, going from F41 back to F21 would play both F21 AND F0 audio.
Putting a stopAllSounds(); above the start() line stopped all the audio, but then the start() line didn't play either.
A day and a half to realize, put the stopAllSounds() on 21 and 41, and the start() line on 22 and 42.
F0 ----- F20 - F21 - F22 ----- F40 - F41 - F42
F0: Begin F0 movie and F0 audio
F20: Stop F0 movie, continue F0 audio
F21*: stopAllSounds, go to F22
F22: Begin F22 movie and F22 audio
F40: Stop F22 movie, continue F22 audio
F41*: stopAllSounds, go to F42
F42: Begin F42 movie and F42 audio
CONCLUSION
I had 4 of these sections, so going from the 4th back to the 3rd sounded "really" interesting with 3 overlays.
I tried about 30-50 different ways of trying to get the audio overlays to stop. It was very frustrating, and most audio searches on Google either turned up unanswered 1 message posts, or messages regarding car alarms using audio and 'flash'ing alerts.
Originally, I was also 'looping' from 40 back to 21 until I learned that what I was looping should have been in a Movie Clip and looping inside of there, allowing the audio to continue playing out in its own Movie Clip and not looping that as well.
I added the stopAllSounds one frame prior to each section, and bam! stopAllSounds stops all sounds throughout all the layers for the frame its on. Next frame ... start a new sound.
It was quite a learning experience.
