Default PayPal Alternative

I currently own an online store where I use PayPal as a means of processing payments. Recently, I have had a few problems and I am looking for an alternative to this program. Basically, I need a program that will allow me to add buttons to each product and will have some sort of built-in merchant account...

I know that this might be a basic question, but I am still trying to figure out shopping carts...

Thanks.

Not too sure of the program is the shopping cart program or the Paypal program?

For the shopping cart, if you are looking for ASP, check out http://www.spidersales.com or www.vpasp.com. For PHP, check out www.oscommerce.com. If you do want ASP, I have a smaller version of an ASP shopping cart that I can send to you.

If you are processing over $1,000 a month, you might consider a merchant account. Otherwise, check out www.mypaysystems.com as well.

Thanks Corey!

I will definitely look into these programs...I never realized how many options there were just to let people use their credit cards...

Glad that I could help. There are lots of different options,

Companies likes Paypal, StormPay, Ikobo - aggregators or third party processors. And then some other third party processors like Paysystems or 2Checkout - the most popular.

And then you have the option to get your own merchant account. And there are thousands of these out there.

Authorizenet is one of the largest and most used providers of virtual terminals. They provide access to the First Data gateway and if you have a merchant account you are in business. There are strategies which you can employ to dramatically save funds beyond just having an alternative to Paypal.

If you require more assistance on either issue drop me a line or post.

I have researched different options to accept payments online. So far, nothing more affordable than PayPal I could not find. With PayPal you don't have to pay all those *fees* like setup, monthly, maintenance, etc.
PayPal is improving, PayPal is known. Now, your customers don't have to open PayPal account to pay through PayPal with their credit cards.

My internet host is http://ipowerweb.com. They offer four solutions to e-commerce, one of which is PayPal. The others are Agora, osCommerce and e-online Data. Following are blurbs from my host's e-commerce link:

Agora is a great ecommerce solution for users with some HTML/Perl experience. Agora does not use a database to store product information. All product information is stored in flat files. Please remember the administrator username and password when you install Agora because you will need them to log in and administrate your store.

install oscommerceIf you would like to add ecommerce capabilities to your website, osCommerce is an ideal solution. The osCommerce installation requires one database.

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone else had heard of the alleged problems with Paypal? I hadn't until I came across www.paypalsucks.com - couldn't believe some of the posts. Apparently, by signing up to Paypal's terms and conditions, you are effectively giving away your consumer rights. It says that Paypal frequently deem accounts as criminal (i.e. if someone has used a stolen card to pay you which you have no control over, or if someone pays you twice in one day), freezes them, then takes your money. They are judge and jury and say they've investigated and you're not getting your money back. A lot of people are seriously out of pocket with them.

It was a real eye-opener for me as I had been advocating Paypal to all my clients. I have been looking for alternatives since I found out.

Default Paypal alt

Paypal is great for online payment if your customers comes from Ebay but what I learn is that people that don't have paypal will easily click on another payment that will only require their credit card information as Paypal request Password,.... to become a Paypal member. I use ClickBank (low fee setting account) that is great for electronic delivery like software... and the best is their affiliate program you can add to your website. Stormpay is a great deal too. If your delivery will not be electronicaly , I suggest you to go with a professional ecommerce software and SSL server because ecommerce is not a game you must becareful in security.

I have no intent to defend PayPal but the most of the claims have been made several years ago. I am aware about their problem in a past. However, I know that the company has improved the service. And, by the way, the credit card payment can be made already without the opening your own PayPal account. I just recently filled out the survey for PayPal that was deigned to find out how to improve the service even better.

The problem is that the old “bad image” did not disappear, and I am loosing some sales because of that image. I can see that looking at the number of applications to buy the Transcender software with a good discount but no payments have been made.

Particularly, the companies resist paying through PayPal. I would love to have another "PayPal" service under different name without bad image followup.

Default Free Shop Cart !

Hi, as an avid user of PayPal for 3 years (based in the UK I'm pleased to see that they are now getting their Euro act together v. nicely) let me recommend an excellent Free 3rd Party Cart facility that 'slots' in seamlessly with PayPal, NoChex and anyone else.

Can't recommend it highly enuff: www.mals-e.com

Default plimus

we use a payment system called, plimus (plimus.com) and find them to be excellent (we've used 2 others and like plimus the best). their customer service is attentive and prompt and they've even added features to their system that we've requested. it's great for our affiliates as well as they simply need to set up an account, then everything is fairly automated and actually works (the others did not seem to work very well or at all) they get paid. we get paid - everyone is happy. good luck in any case.

Default 2Checkout

Seems like 2 checkout http://clik.to/2checkout is the only one that will allow us in Malaysia to get a payment processor. All other ones don't allow us. Talk about unfair. Just coz it's a muslim nation or what? Frustrating. At least 2 checkout works.

Default Paypal

Thanks everyone for the different suggestions...I want to take my time and study each one before making a transition...

I have heard about the anti-paypal movement and have read through that site. Honestly, it scared the hell out of me...But, I have used PP for over 2 years and haven't had one problem with the 2000+ orders that I have fulfilled...

The only problem with them is they don't offer the full range of options that I see other websites using....

Thanks again...

Scott

I have recently finished an ecommerce site using PayPal (http://www.funkycrocodile.com) and so far everything is working fine... being in the UK just hope they allow non-US accounts the option of "customers not needing to sign up for a Paypal account" soon.

Paul.

Hi mizambar

You may want to consider an Affiliate program such [url]www.regnow.com[/url. Not only do you get a shopping cart and buy links, but you also can also (pnly if you want) have your software sold on the sites of others. For a commission of course!

I now use Regnow almost exclusively on my site for selling the products of others. It works out very well. My own software sales have also picked up about 15-20% due to affiliates.

Paypal is just a company. Meaning technically you can do exactly what they do. You just have to find out how. Pay a lot figuring out now and save years to come of expenses supporting a company that gets rich charging ridiculous percents for changing figures in it's own database.
