The free version is a hosted solution...

You'll have to purchase the full version if you want to host it yourself.

There are plenty of free shopping carts available.

I will agree that there are lots of free carts available. I have tried several shopping cart systems including IXXO Cart Plus. I ended up buying an IXXO Cart Plus license, after wasting my time testing other carts. My opinion is that you get for what you pay. If you are looking for a real multi language ecommerce solution, there is no better choice.
