Default Joomla CMS for eCommerce ???

I am curious as to whether anyone here has ever used a Content Management System such as Joomla, Mambo or Drupal for their eCommerce business.

I know that there is a free Shopping Cart extension/module called VirtueMart that plugs right into Joomla and seems pretty decent - though I wonder whether or not it can be expanded as needed.

Any thoughts, insight. experience ??

although experience is not my own, it appears that CMS built in ecommerce capabilities might work fine for trivial stores. so far i know, these build in capabilities are not extendable in functionality.

so, if you need a simple store - CMS likely to help. as say paypal can. if you would need shipping, taxes, special pricing or something fancy - you better go with a specialized software. in most cases there's an option to integrate sessions & customer profiles (if applicable) of the CMS driven part and a shopping cart part if the code is open. takes some development though.

Hello guys!

I own an eCommerce website called NEW TECH SHOP. It is made 100% using Joomla and Virtuemart. Joomla CMS and Virtuemart was been highly customized, the DB modified, a lot of php code completely rewritten...I think that we have made a good job! But I would like to receive from you some review about it. Now I am working around the basket and order checkout to give it a professional look. I am very satisfied about implementing Joomla and Virtuemart for this kind of website. OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE RULES!
