Default Starting from scratch with ecommerce?

I've created several web sites but never an ecommerce site. Would you please suggest a couple of good resources that describe how to get started from the beginning?

What do you want to do?

Are you looking to build a new cart, program additions to an existing open source cart, or take an off the shelf cart and add products or just do some design work to a cart, etc.....what do you want to do as far as "get started"?

i should add...you should start with the Open Source carts like oscommerce, zen cart, cre loaded, etc....as they will have GREAT ways to get started and then build and add and change and use the open source community for help and ideas.
