you could also try http://www.cubecart.com - valid XHTML, has SEO mods available - i coded one up recently for a Baby Clothes Websites just lately. Have a look at the source.
Checkout process is a bit long-winded but am working on reducing down to 2 stage process.
Cheap too!

I would avoid oscommerce - coded with tables
