Default FREE Hosting but is it worth it?

HERE'S AN UPDATE : OK - EVERYTHING IS A OK NOW. IT WAS SOMETHING THAT 1AND1 HAD TO SWITCH FROM THEIR END ... THEY WERE PROBABLY INUNDATED ON THE FREE OFFER. SO - IGNORE THE PREVIOUS (BELOW).

IT LOOKS LIKE 1and1.com ARE REALLY REVVING UP ... I HAVE SOME 99 DOMAINS THERE FOR MY eChem "INDUSTRY CHANGING" project that I have to try getting off on a frayed shoestring budget (i.e. negative). I thank 1and1.com for their marketing foresight and the real benefits for some of us like me

==============================================

I learnt from this great forum of this site:

1and1.com Promoting FREE HOSTING.

But I am having ZERO SUCCESS in any area - even to edit or launch their internal Web Site Creator program. Keeps saying its not ready. I would really like to stick arround even to placing many paying sites once this promo is over.

However, if it does not work then all my efforts are worth zilch. Has anybody else had similar experience? It is also extremely, painfully slow in loading any clicks in any service area, including CONTROL PANEL.

I need to host some 600 sites, when all is done and told. These will be costly (and I have NO money today) but I need to test out some sites now, and look for VC or seed money to go the full extent.

I am not kicking a gift horse in the mouth, but I would like to have this solved if anybody has any ideas. I have been struggling for a week. HELP !

You all are a great inspiration !

Regards

Ken.

Usually not - with hosting - you get what you pay for. Hosting companies are a dime a dozen. I would suggest someone pretty cheap. Even then - you are getting a risk. I use GoDaddy for domain registration. They seem to have pretty cheap hosting plans.

As Corey Bryant mentioned, you do often get what you pay for. There's almost always some kind of catch.

However, with 600 websites, then you're venturing into dedicated server territory

That Web site Creator program may be their own WYSIWYG editor. You may get better assistance contacting them.

Default FREE Hosting

Corey, Cyanide,

Thanbks for the post.

I have accepted the FREE thing as being you get what you pay for.

However, these people "sounded" legit, biggest hosting co, etc., and they sound like those people who did the "hotmail" promo and made a bundle from MS.

These people have this promo for a limited time Jan 21st - and I can see the marketing side of loss-leaders, in order to get future and related businesses.

Do you have any info on 1and1.com? Can you view them and see what you think of them?

Thanks, I will hangup and listen.

Regards,

Ken.

Default FREE Hosting.

By the way,

I have a one year paid site that I am working on, hosted at iPowerweb.com.

Any views on them?

Thanks,

Ken.

I am just curious about how many internet sites they would put on one account. I am not a big fan of Ipowerweb either. I know they put more than 1,000 sites usually on one webserver. Plus I am an ASP guy and I cannot use them. I have one friend on them now & his month expires in March. He is moving then.

You might want to check out www.1st-amendment.net - I have not used them but I know him & he seems like a pretty good guy to work with. He might even work out a deal with you.
