Default Need Managed Hosting Recommendations

I need managed hosting recommendations. I currently have around 20 sites that I host. Right now I'm on a shared hosting plan which was great for a while, but we have to manage everything ourselves and it just takes too much time. So we're looking for something like Rackspace but maybe cheaper.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Ally

What all do you need managed? Have you looked into reseller plans for some companies? We also used Hostway for a long time before we started our hosting company. They were very good, support was sometimes lacking when they did expand but I very rarely needed anything.

Right now we're on a Linux machine, which is fine. We need the basics. Email, database, etc. Don't need huge resources just decent ones with a decent price. We're with Linode right now. Really like the company but I think we're outgrowing them.

I am not too familiar with most of the Linux hosting companies but I do know that Hostway does support Linux as well.

What makes you say you are outgrowing them?
What kind of budget do you have?

With only 20 sites, I'm not so sure you are at the stage of needing a dedicated server

I'm outgrowing them because I no longer have time to maintain the server myself. That's why I asked for managed hosting. And yes, dedicated would be better because three of the sites are popular enough that it sometimes slows the machine down. Plus I'm tired of sharing with people who slow the machine down for me.

Rackspace quoted $400 which I could do, but I don't really want to.

Only $400? That's not too bad. The quote I got from them was over $2000/month, and that's only hosting 2 sites. I think our needs are a bit different. ;-)

Personally, I prefer doing the maintenence myself so I know when it's done and what's done. I've had times where an update breaks something. If someone else did the update, it'd be much tougher to track down what broke things.

Brian.

I'd love to be able to completely run and maintain the server, but I don't have the time or resources for that.

Thus my question. Does anyone else have any recommendations? I don't like picking blindly. :)

Thanks,
Ally

Have you checked out my boys over at [url=http://www.sectorlink.com/Server_Services.php#Additional_Features]Sectorlink[/url}? I don't know how well they do Linux stuff, since I'm an NT guy myself, but I do know that I've been with them 3.5 years (which is, according to Adam's Unofficial Hosting Years calculator, 2730 Hosting Years) * , they've been down exactly twice on me (once due to a hard drive failure, and once due to a bandwidth issue with Savvis) for the total of about 2 hours, and they actually offer...well, support. I've got a question, and it gets answered and usually within an hour (HELLO, INTELLIGENT-LIFE.COM...LEARN FROM THIS.)

* The average human life span = 65 years. The average web hosting company lasts about a month and is usually done in a parents' basement on a cable modem. To figure out how old a company is in Hosting Years, take the number of months the company has been in business and multiply it by 65.

e.g. In the example above, I've known about Sectorlink for 3.5 years. 3.5 years = 42 months * 65 = 2730 Hosting Years.
