Default e-Act

According to the e-act Clinton signed in 2000, a digital signature is accepted on a contract. My question is if you need to buy a digital certificate (signature) from companies like VeriSign in order for the contract to be valid, or is it ok to sign it in a normal mode (electronically of course) without the service of a 3rd party company.

In case this helps I'm talking about contracts having as object graphic design, and it would be a lot more easy if I would just send a document through email, get it signed and there you go, a valid contract.

Thank you.

I'm not positive on this, but I don't think that you need a secure connection to do this. It would be better for the security of your clients, but its not a legal requirement. If you take any sensitive information like CC# or SSN etc, then definitely use a secure connection.

Well I've found the original document but it's not written in a "common language" (http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-...=f:publ229.106).

I think too that it's not a legal requirement (after reading this http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,31133,00.asp) but it might be necessary for security reasons.
