I need to know how to take online donations without it costing me an arm and a leg. I'm on a very tight budget, and everything that comes in from this site, I want to be able to use as much as possible on the program. Which way should I go to do this?

Signing up for a paypal account is probably your best option

You do not say how much, but also check out www.sporg.com - they might be able to help you out.

I understand. You can always consider paypal at first. I did not know if you were a registered NPO & had people coming in every couple of months to donate. You might consider signing up on a couple of affiliate programs as well to possibly help to supplement.

It really depends on what you need. Though for some reason people tend to recommend Paypal's Pro or Premier accounts they are more expensive than a merchant account and sometimes are not as flexible - especially in the case of fighting chargebacks. It really depends on what you need, and what type of business you are. Paypal is not always the best solution, email or PM me and I may be able to recommend a solution.

But again, they cost more especially for their solutions with a Virtual Terminal. Many non profits (including churches) don't know any better, but if you're looking for anything beyond a buy now button a merchant offers more (including features like a virtual terminal) for a lower price, plus protection against chargebacks. I've been helping people find accounts for years and I can tell you that many businesses just assume that Paypal's the best for all solutions when it's not always... Do your homework before committing to one.

Two non-profit specific solutions are Echo (ECHO Credit Card Processing - Merchant Accounts and Check Payment Processing Services) and Sustaining Donor Solutions (Welcome to Giving Solutions) - these solutions are targeted towards non-profit or charity merchants.
You can also use the NexCommerce package for either Authorize.net or the Paymentech Orbital package if you're just looking for a payment acceptance solution that's catered to online businesses in general (not non profits specifically). Their package includes Authorize.net or Paymentech Orbital. The Paymentech Orbital option is a flat $9.99 per month - and includes a merchant account, virtual terminal, and no other gateway fee. They're at NexCommerce - online merchant services - bundled rate gateway Last edited by msinfo; 12-12-2007 at 07:04 PM. |

I'm closing this thread, as it's 4 years old and should not have been bumped.
