Default How Do I Determine a Domain's Value?

I had a friend contact me about a domain he knew I owned. He wants to know if I'd sell the domain.

Here are the factors involved: I've had the domain for 2 years, and while I've never actively developed it, it does have a single page on it, and so the age of the domain has to have some value. The domain has been indexed, and shows up in searches right now on about the 4th or 5th page for searches relevant to what they want to use, so in some respects, it's 'primed' for them.

I know domains are such a commodity item, but does anyone have any guidelines for what to ask for for an asking price?

Firstly, don't go getting your hopes up. There are a lot of factors that come into play, IBL's, domain age, monthly traffic and whether or not the domain is keyword rich.

It's impossible to provide an estimate unless you're willing to share the name of the domain so we can do some research.

Try this:

Head over to dnScoop, enter your domain in the search box and click "Check it".

In that it covers a few of the basics, I think it'll provide you with a pretty good guestimate.

Alternatively, here's another tool that might be a little more accurate. It takes a few more factors into effect but the value you receive depends on your honest input.

SwiftAppraisal

Enjoy.

It ALL depends on what it is and WHO wants it.

The shorter the domain the better, and real single words are good too.

Cruises.co.uk sold for over half a million pounds (one million dollars) this year:

Ultimately a domain is worth what someone is willing to pay for it however if you want a free appraisal tool to use you can always try estibot.com

Be warned however that no auto-tool like this is perfect but this is probably the best of it's kind, but again it's not perfect because no automated tool can be just FYI-

Also try Estimate Masters for domain values.

ESTIMATE MASTERS - Fast & Accurate Domain Name Appraisals

Yea they charge a small fee but their estimates are spot on. I have sold 3 domains in the past 6 months and each sold within about $50 of what they gave me as an estimate. Other free sites were off by about $2000!! The free sites just give you an estimate to make you think you actually have something good which is BS when you are trying to sell a domain.

Remember you always get what you pay for

P.S. Estimate Masters is having a sale until Sept 15th.

Good Luck!
