domain transfer being screwed
I hope this is the best place to post my problem with a domain transfer. I have a domain registered with a third party (downtownhost.com). The current registrar is actually bizcn.com, which is in a foreign language. I've spent hours writing back and forth with downtownhost trying to get the authorization code from them so i can transfer the domain to godaddy. I've written over 30 emails to 2 different tech support people with downtownhost but they are a bunch of idiots. they've given me a wrong authorization code, and i can't talk to the registrar because they speak chinese or something. I need to get my domain transferred to godaddy and want to know what my options are. downtownhost is not returning any of my emails any more. I am worried that downtown host is screwing me with my domain. Is there any way to force transfer this domain to godaddy? Any one have any experience with this.

Re: domain transfer being screwed
You could try contacting ICANN and filing a complaint as I believe they now take these matters more seriously than they used to.

Re: domain transfer being screwed
Afraid I can't help you, JaxWeb, as I've been having a similar problem transferring a domain.
Ours has been with RegDiscount.com - part of Register.com - for some years. As we've bought others through GoDaddy, we want to consolidate our domain ownership with a single registrar.
The Authorization key supplied by RegDiscount.com is not accepted by GoDaddy in the transfer process. As would be expected, GoDaddy say it's the current registrar's problem and RegDiscount/Register/Rconnection.com (latter providing 'Support'!) say it should work.
Anyone found a way around this?

Re: domain transfer being screwed
DN registrations can be transferred with or without the cooperation of the current registrar.
From several experiences involving such cases, all with GoDaddy as the intended new registrant, I see no reason why GoDaddy should not be able to effect such transfer under the circumstances described, unless you are not the owner of record and do not have Administrative access to the account with the current registrar.

Re: domain transfer being screwed
Let that be a lesson that when registering your domain names, always be very careful of who you choose as a registrar and 99% of the time you should choose GoDaddy.
I'm pretty certain as deepsand stated that you can have GoDaddy initiate the transfer.

Re: domain transfer being screwed
I had a similar problem a few years ago with a host and domain reseller that went out of business. The host gave all his domain customers to another reseller in the Phillipines, but the actual registrar was bizcn. I found that the unlock transfer code automatically expired after 24 hours and had to be reset. With dealing with the Phillipines through email and them going through bizcn, the time window wasn't being met and the code failed. I finally found someone who understood this and managed to reset it for me to give it more time. The actual code was the same for both time windows. I hope this helps.

Re: domain transfer being screwed
If you have account access, there is a way to do it... you have to UNLOCK domain transfers from your current account. Once you do that, you can "force-transfer" your account to Godaddy (or anyone else for that matter)... just do be careful when you unlock it, for someone outthere might try to transfer it away...

Re: domain transfer being screwed
Well, I don't think you will be able to transfer from bizcn.com (which is under the CNNIC) to Godaddy (an ICANN registrar). We have a web hosting operation in China and I haven't seen a transfer from a Chinese registrar to an "international" one happen yet, or vice versa. The least I can say is that this would be very complicated. Transfer from a registrar in China to another in CHina is fine (if the losing registrar is cooperative, which is not always the case in China).
To transfer to an ICAAN registrar the procedure that was advised to us was to submit an application by letter to the CNNIC, with a long list of documents, wait for weeks, and this wasn't even 100% guaranteed. So it is not as easy as just getting an EPP code.

Re: domain transfer being screwed
Ok, i finally got a new authorization code sent to me, and the transfer worked, but stupid downtownhost is blaming it on me and godaddy. Has anyone heard this excuse before about failed authorization codes? This is what they said:
Quote:
"We found the reason. The Auth Code was 100% correct. The problem is that GoDaddy system can accept a limit of string parsing through his system. Since your domain name is very long, thus causing the problem. The only way we can do is to asking to reset a new Auth Code with a very short length.
If you had asked GoDaddy for the details, the problem should had been solved long ago."
|
Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. My domain name was too long?

Re: domain transfer being screwed
DN's short enough for GoDaddy to be able to do everything except handle the transfer auth. code?
