Default Don't forget to renew those domain names

The Washington Post forgot to renew their domain name.

I will never ever feel stupid again.

Maybe the NY Times ought to grap this domain.

This reminds me of a great little story...

I was the webmaster for a local nonprofit called "Dogwood Arts Festival". They had me two years of their site. On the second year they brought in this local designer who thought he knew it all. He started a program called "Bear Foot in the City" for the festival which had local designers decorating bear cubs, having companies buy them and put them downtown. After the second year, they dropped me and my services (design and hosting) for a cheaper company. This was two years ago.

Well, (to make a long story long) last year right after the Art Festival, where they prominently advertised and promoted the updated "Bear Foot in the City Program" which used the domain, bearfootinthecity.com, I got a phone call.

"Umm, we seem to have adult pornography on the "Bear Foot in the City" web site. We just spend thousands of dollars marketing this program and listing the web site in all of our flyers, brochures and news print articles." "What have you done with our site?" Now keep in mind this is the USA Bible belt. There are more churches in this part of the country than there are convenience stores and gas stations put together

I kindly informed them that I have not been involved with their site for over two years and they should contact the company they dropped me for.

The company I hosted through automatically renews the domain unless I tell them otherwise. That way I don't have to worry about things like this happening. Apparently, the new company let the domain lapse and it got picked up by a New York based porn company. I had this weird kind of pleasure letting the festival committee know there was nothing they could do.

That's what they get for dumping me.

We use an alias for the e-mails regarding our accounts.

That way 6 people including accounts payable get it.

Considering the Post's IT budget you would think someone woulg get the message.

Next time maybe the notice should be delivered by "Deep Throat".
