Does this count as a duplicate website?

Hi, I'm a real novice regarding websites, but have reagularly read that duplicate websites are a real no-no. We have our company website (www.home.com), but also have a product website (www.product.com) that points to the same website. Is this considered a duplicate website? We purchased our product website name so no one else could use it, and it seems silly not to use it - but have we broken the rules?

I am assuming you are talking about domain names in your question as it is a little unclear?

You can only be penalised if you have two copies of the same site at two different web addresses (www.home.com and www.product.com) - what it sounds like you intend to do is have your main site www.home.com and point www.product.com to that domain, therefore you only actually have one website, but you have two domains pointing to the one site.

If this is the case then you will not be penalised.

Thanks for your help. You're right they are both our domain names, though we obviously use our company name one as the main one, with the other pointing there.
