Country Specific Domain Name extensions

Is there any benefit to having a country specific domain extension, such as .co.uk (UK), .ca (Canada), .bz (Belize)?

Does this help in search placement for a specific search. For example if I have a domain of realestate.com, would it have better placement for a search of "real estate in Canada" if it had a .ca extension?

Does a relevant search with a country in the search term list sites with country specific extension over non-specific ones, such as .com, .org, net??
