Domain registration for .info sites

A year ago I set up a website using a .info domain. See http://www.ashford-junior-rugby.info. The domain was free. I just had to pay for hosting. Recently, I've received a letter from a US registry agent demanding $100 to retain the domain name. Does anyone know the background to this?

I would be tempted to ignore it. If its from the company you registered with check the whois details of the domain to make sure that it is in your name and then transfer it on renewal.

Expiring .info domain

thanks. Whois shows that the domain was renewed in my name last week.
