Default Second Domain Name Game

I was advised here that it is better to have a domain name that can brand my site, and inform people what we are about rather than use then just use mykeyword.com . I am now wondering, if I would purchase the domain name of my main keyword could I use it for something? If a domain name is just a "front" to the "real" site can it climb the SEO ladder and does it have any value?

This seems like a basic question. Does anyone have an answer?

It depends on what you do with it. If you have enough unique content to support it being a separate site then fine. If not, then you should just get the name (so someone else doesn't) and set up a 301 Permenant Redirect to your main site.

Like I said before, it depends on whether or not you use it as a separate site. Just buying the name will not give it great search engine rankings.
