Default New to domain business - looking for help!

Hello,

I am totally new to the domain business and I am seeking some advise and help. I became interested in the first place becuase it seems that finding domains that already have some traffic can make things easier for start-ups

I am trying to research this business and so far I have discovered the following needs to be checked when someone is willing to buy an expired domain.

1. Presense of the domain in google, yahoo, dmoz and other directories

2. Link popularity of the domain

3. Estimation of how many type-ins does the domain generate

However I am totally lost on how to find expiring domains and how can I be sure if the domain name does generate type-in traffic. How do I check this?

I would also like to learn more about this business and need some directions from the experts of this forum.

Thanks,
Mukul

Mukul,
There are a number of services online that you can subscribe to that provide you with lists expiring domain names. What you do after that is use a 'domain catching' service like Pool.com to try and grab the domain as the name drops.

To check if a domain has type-in traffic, a quick way is to use Overture's tool Go to: http://inventory.overture.com
Just type in your domain with the extension. It will show you how many times the domain was typed in to Overture's search box.

I'd target current live domains that are for sale rather then expired...

You just might avoid the expired domain filter if you snatch one up and do transfer rather then aquire an expired domain....

That is excellent advise.

Just search for "domain name forsale" and then check the whois and see when it expires...

Some people think with the box closed others throw the box away!
