Whereis Whois?

This morning I was curious of the status of a domain name, and checked the whois to see who owns it.

After lunch today, I tried a 2nd domain. This time, I get a message that says "The maximum number of requests allowable from your subnet per day has been exceeded".

Hmmm, one request is the limit now? I went to another site that has Whois search, and got the same message. Did I miss something? I've been known to miss low flying airplanes before. I don't know how I might have missed a big announcement like this though, if there were one. I used to be able to do several dozen searches in one sitting. Now I'm allowed one? Uno? That's it? Sigh...
