Default wwwCNN.com

I mistyped www.CNN.com this morning and entered wwwCNN.com instead (the actual domain name being www.wwwCNN.com). I was redirected to an online casino which of course had nothing to do with CNN.

Is registering of a domain with a preceding "www" common, and could it result in a legal battle or trademark infringement?

I also checked and wwwHotmail, wwwMSN, wwwGoogle are registered by their obvious owners, but many of my domains, and my competitors domains are not registered with this prefix...any thoughts the importance of registering this mistype?

Its just a waste of money, Very low type in traffic, and the legal fees alone are way too much, 1800.00 to start off filing a UDRP and if they win you pay that plus their costs. Stay away

I agree with AGS.

Anyway the net is full of mistypen domain names that redirect to sites that have nothing to do with the original one.

I don't think you need to secure this kind of domains, unless you are a very popular site.

Thanks for the replies.

It was the first time I had mistyped this domain in over 3 years, so you are probably correct in saying it siphons very little traffic.

People that do that really disgust me. They are just basic scammers.
