VillageShops is close to what Afternics appraisal came in (primarily because there is a live site there), but TeenPages is an order of magnitude less.

This must mean Network Solutions assumes a working website (whether it performs or not) is worth more than just a domain name.

I will be curious to see what the appraisal for TeenPages is after it resolves to an IP (even though it points to Afternic, and there really is no website).

I will let you know.

My DetroitPages site is 8000? - 10,000

just for kicks I tried Yahoo and it gave the max at 8515 - 10,000 thats that highest bid the service will accept so thats the max value for the domain names.

Perhaps this tool is in Canadian dollars....

As I fail to see who is willing to offer a value even close to these for some of these names.

I have plenty of 3digit .com's with #-letter-letter, and they all came in around $1000-1500? they all have basically banner display park pages on them of our own design.

The best one here in my opinion is NYMN for the obvious NY New york references, and it is current the new youth media network or something similar in Austrailia.
I would sell all 6 of these 'examples' I give above for $2K without batting an eye. All basically park pages except enginetool.com which is running a PHP spider and has thousands of indexed pages.

I would never claim to be knowledgable of all the fine points of this market area but I see this tool as an amusing novelty along the lines of

I have several hundred domain names and for a while I was usin this Network Solutions link to get estimated values on my domain names.

These two domains were valued by Network Solutions as thus:
sweetheartvalentine.com $10,675.00 - $13,175.00 USD
snowflakesoftware.com $8,050.00 - $10,550.00 USD

However when I obtained an actual paid-for appraisal through GoDaddy.com the results were far less impressive.

sweetheartvalentine.com :$98.00 - $304.00
snowflakesoftware.com $48.00 - $134.00

I questioned GoDaddy.com's apparent low-ball estimate and frankly, after considering their reasoning, I agree they are more realistic, but still way to low for my confort level. Sticker shock? Reality?

I've placed my snowflakesoftware.com domain up for auction starting at what think is a reasonable starting point $500.00 - what else can I do?

Frankly, in hindsight, I think Network Solutions purposely inflates these values because in the long run we dumb heads will believe them and buy more domains in the hopes we'll get stinkin rich. Meanwhile Network Solutions et all get's stinkin rich off our purchases.

The estimates of domain values are ludicrously high. Helps make us feel good about the domains we own, but in the real world I challenge anybody to sell their domains for the values quoted with that tool.

Most of the Domains posted in this forum are worth far less than the appraisal on that site.. You can't automate an appraisal and expected sale is usually divided by a factor of 10.. A site value is purely dependent on how well it can be typed in, remembered, marketed, branded, How well it describes and represents the products, services and content , and the ability to generate type in traffic.

Example: "YouLego" Brings up 23million page results altavista search and more or less the same in google.. the site here says (without appraising product or service) 11k-14k but I have had offers for it for over 500 thousand dollars.. No I'm not selling! Developing the site so I can sell it for over 1 million..If I'm Lucky..

Citcom.tv and Citcoms.tv are being offered about 80-150k.. However, BrickBucket.com is worth no more than 100 bucks and is my worst domain.. :/

In the end.. the domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it..

PS.. I'm not saying anyones domains are bad.. Just not exactly high traffic producers or marketable for most of them.

Okay, finally figured it out why I couldn't get the appraisal to work. You need to replace the "YourDOMAINHERE.com" in the url, not in the webpage itself, then follow the instructions above and you'll get the appraisal.
