Do I have a wrong domain name?

Hi,

When I started experimenting with my first new web site, I didn't know all the tricks on the Internet with the domain names. I choose the domain name which seemed to sound nice - www.singles-space.com. My site is a dating service (online personals), the keywords: "free dating service", "free personals", "dating service" and "personals". My question is - how much of traffic I am loosing because I don't have the keywords in my domain name? I though about buying better domain names and redirect traffic from them to my site, but Google penalazes for that and I don't want to get into its black list.

May be it is better to get another domain name and promote it again? I would appreciate any ideas.

I'm not sure that Google weight as heavily as she once did on KW domains. With good SEO you should be fine. ALthough you may want to ask this question in the Google forum just to be sure. My SEO algo knowledge is not as up to date as it used to be when I was in the biz.

Why not just buy more domain names with keywords and build relevant pages to those keywords that are entrance pages but not just "fluff" doorway pages?

I have started doing this and I am hosting the "doorways" on another host from my main site with a different "c" block and it is working quite well as it is giving me better inbound link structure to my site where I can control the anchor text.

Surfers like to see keywords in urls and I seem to have generated a better click through rate.

Use keywords in a subdomain and it's even better. If your host does not support subdomains check out the host in my signature as they offer unlimted subdomains.

I though about that, but I am not sure that Goggle will not find a way to figure out that I am playing this game. Recently some of the biggest companies from the dating industry lost their Google rating completely, and I know that they held many different domain names. I believe that this is why they got penalized. I know also that Google is constantly working on finding those who use many domain names for one site. But I believe that discussion about Google tricks is not for this thread.

If the page is relevant and unique and shows value to a surfer google will not hurt you. I never build to trick the engines.

I think directing many domain names to a single page can be more damaging.

I just finished reading another article (from Planet Ocean) a few minutes ago that also described using keywords in your domain name and though a minor help in the engines, it can be a major help for the surfers eye to be drawn to your URL.

May be I should try this. I have a couple of good domain names with the keywords, which I could use. Do I have to promote those new domain names then?
