Default Appraisals from WebProWorld users?

Greetings,
I am new in domain game. I recently registered some domains, and let's say I would like to know their approximate value, if any. Is it OK to ask forum users to help? Perhaps there's already a thread like this?
Thanks.

Hi CigarsParadise,

Thank you for asking 1st.

This is a new forum and we are still trying to decide if we are going to allow appraisals and domains for sale listings. I may start seperate sections if we do decide to allow it.

For now I would say go ahead as long as you have less than 3 names. If you have more than that please put them all on a page and link to that page.

FYI there are many other forums that do allow domain appraisals - just Google domain name forums.

Okay, I'll go ahead then :)
Right now, I've got :
bigsox.com
caronline.org
ticketz.info

What do you think about those?

Hi Catalyst,

Considering the intelligent audience and interests of this forum, I would vote to allow appraisals and requests for opinions on domain names. I think it would add much value and really kick off this forum !

Just my $0.02..

Regards,
Mike.

CigarsParadise,

Let me have a stab at it then !

bigsox.com - Can't see much commercial value. It's technically a misspelling so that would bring the value down. Quite a cool sounding name though so that might help. My guess: $100 - $150

caronline.org - Good name although the extension doesn't fit a commercial site. Be good for a car enthousiast site but they are usually not willing to fork out much. My guess: $50 - $100

ticketz.info - Again a misspelling. There are still quite good .info names available so rarity won't help the value much. for the right buyer (and maybe wait a while) : $50 - $150

Please note that the values are PURELY subjective. If you find the right buyer at the right time, these values could easily be multiplied by 10 !

Regards,
Mike.

Thanks Mike,
I guess I'll have to use Bazaar :) and try to find some better names.
Maybe somebody has a different opinion on those? I would like to hear from Catalyst :)

CigarsParadise,

I would agree with Mike's evaluation and logic on your domains and highlightthe fact that if you can market to end users and someone WANTS your name badly you could get more. I see names like this going in the reseller domain forums for $10 also however.

Mike I agree about adding an appraisal section - just need to discuss with Brittany and come up with the rules. The concern of course is how to prevent it from becoming too spammy. Any ideas on good rules to keep things under control please PM me.

2Catalyst about Appraisal section :
just limit the number of domains per post, for example 3/post, and 1 post per week?

Hi Catalyst,

These things tend to work themselves out. If you would have a seperate forum topic (domain name appraisals) I guess the rule could be 1 domain name per post, domain name in the post subject, no linking to the domain name in the post. If you don't want to have a seperate forum topic for it, I guess the rule could still apply but ask to put something like:

[appraisal request] mydomain.com

as topic subject so they can be clearly identified.

Hope that helps.
Regards,
Mike.

I think it would be a good idea to put a domain appraisal forum here. I have a few domains that I am looking to get appraised. I went to the other forums but the only good ones require a membership fee to post in. I think a well-moderated forum would be a good addition to the site.

Like I said it would need to be well moderated, and have a fairly strict set of rules. Like 3 domains max, and no selling domains, just appraisals. It could definitely be a good popular addition to the site.

If you need a moderator, I would be happy to help. Pm me if you want more info, I have a strong web background and I'm almost always online.

Ok here's the domain that I was wanting to get appraised. It seemed like a good business related short and meaningful name, but Im definately no expert in this field. Any comments would be great..

I'm not very good with valuations yet so can't quote dollars but...

getoffmy.com Has a cool ring to it and could be a good chat or complaint site. Not sure about any value though since I don't see an industry that could monetize it right off hand.

ccmax.com could be worth something. Very short and memorable. Would be good for a credit card company or a company with the initials cc??

Ok I was going to wait and talk to Brittany about setting up some rules for an appraisal forum, but since everyone has jumped in and started using this thread, I'm going to just post a "sticky" appraisal forum and make up some rules for now.

I personally think forums appraisals are quite a waste of time.

I don't want to be rude to anybody but I remember some years
ago on afternic forum when I saw all and its opposite regarding
domain names appraisals.

Another fact is that those appraisals came from other domain
sellers that were of course your competitors.

In addition to that in crowded forums like that one was (and
think still is), 90% or more of the users were/are sellers.

This is just my domains experience (started in 2000).

You are right in many ways they are. The bottom line is the value is whatever an end user is willing to pay. Yet domain holders love to ask for them and some people like to give opinions so we will try it and see how it goes.

I think they are good in the sense that some people really have no idea what a domain is worth. So by at least getting others people's opinions on the name they have an idea whether it is even worth their time to try to sell. It also helps people see what is considered a good name because they can review past responses. And these are actual people that they see giving the responses, not just some listing on a site that say's the domain sold for some price.

Default Domain Appraisals

Maybe as appossed to giving an exact or even a monetary value, people could give for example:

Low - Not a great name but has value

Medium - Name has potential

High - Name has a lot of potential

Super - Loads of Potential

Since most of us are not great at attributing value to domain names.

I would give it a "LOW" valuation.

Just a suggestion!

Another fact is that domains can be developped in
so many ways that is hard to tell what the domain
itself can be worth if it is not a main one.

Many professional appraisal services increase a lot
values if developed websites with customers are associated
to the domain.

I think that it can be more useful to ask suggestions
on how the domain can be developped in a website that
works well.

I saw in your other post that announces the sale of your
site that you are already listed on Sedo.

Considering the recent domains sales Sedo seems to be
the hot spot where to sell domains at this time.

I can suggest you to request them an appraisal for your
site and try featuring your sale listing, it should be of
help to find a buyer.

Sparshpolly,

perhaps you can give a look at
http://www.techdealnet.com

There is an active hi tech marketplace there,
and you can search the business buyers posts
for free (while there is a fee if you want to
list for sale your business)

Good luck
