Is that error message only during the Os installation?

Do you have any windows registry cleaner software program on your PC. Run it first.

What operating system is currently on the system, and what are you trying to install?

Are you trying to dual boot or do a clean install?

You need to supply a lot more information, and reply to what Wige asked before you can get the best help.

Make sure the CPU and memory isn't overclocked, set them to the default speeds. (O'clocking sometimes will work fine in Windows, but may sometimes choke when installing the OS).

If you're installing another OS, you should format the HD first. Do that, then let us know if the BSOD still happens, and exactly when it shows up, and what the text is on the BSOD. There's countless reasons for BSOD's to appear.

If the Desktop will still never load, try it in safe mode and see if then will load. Either way if you can get as far as the Desktop loading, I can tell you things to do to debug the BSOD but I have to know the OS.

Just make sure when you are installing a new window that you secure it really good otherwise you might lean on it one day and just fall right through the wall

Based on the information that the OP has provided, its either a hardware fault a software fault a BIOS fault or maybe an error between screen and keyboard.

However, try the typical...

Remove all non essential cards from the system, lower RAM speed etc incase its a driver issue.

As you dont state whether you are trying to upgrade, replace, reinstall, fresh install or dual boot, its hard to say much else apart from, do you get the same error when installing on to a new HDD

You will not face any blue screen of death while installing the second operating system.

Of course you can. A BSOD can happen at any given time doing absolutely anything, even nothing at all. Because, they can be caused by anything (hardware, software, drivers, BIOS, kernel, etc., even temperatures). They are, after all, "the very core of any Windows OS", LoL.

I've never installed a second OS, but it seems to me that it's something that would have to be done from outside of Windows, at a setup level. That would rule out the BSOD, I believe.

More information is really needed here to give adequate help, but I'll try. First off if you’re trying to install a fresh OS onto the system and it BSODs then there is a better than average chance that you have a memory issue. I would do a memory check on the system before proceeding any further. If you would like better answers we need more information.

Noooo, like I said, a BSOD can be caused by anything and can happen at any time. It could amount to how one looks at it: there was a serious bug I was working on in XP SP3 RC (and release) that resulted in a spontaneous reboot loop & BSOD. If the PC was set to automatically restart, you'd see the BSOD every few seconds after BIOS POST, then reboot, and do this over and over. If was set not to not auto restart, it would just hang on the BSOD. Similar BSOD problems also happened on SP2, but it was caused by other things. (SP2 and even SP3 was considered "a new OS" by many).

Some versions of Windows could be upgraded by simply running the upgrade version over the existing OS. You can get BSOD's from that. (And never a good idea).

But since the OP is MIA, it seems pointless for all of us to continue to speculate and grasp at straws.

Got it! Okay, as you say, not much point in playing guessing games, that could have a dozen different answers.

I'm about ready for the sack, anyway.

Could be memory, or a host of other things. BTW, memory tests can be done with MemTest Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool , MemTest: RAM reliability tester for Windows , Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic , and WMD. The BSOD debugging I mentioned earlier: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/DevToo...g/default.mspx and http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...nstallx86.Mspx

Experienced that earlier, I had to re-install my OS to make my PC work again.

If you got winXP or Vista OS, try using your windows installer when booting up.
Then make a REPAIR. It wont remove any existing programs or data.
It will just try to repair any damage on the OS.
