Default connecting to separate networks with laptop

I have a laptop with a Win XP OS that I connect to my home network, and also to the local University network.

The home network connects to an ISP that sets the IP, Gateway, and DNS addresses.
When I take the laptop to Uni, and connect, I have to reset the setting to auto detect addresses. When I return home, I have to enter the addresses again.

Is it possible in Windows XP to have two separate LAN icons which can be selected as required to suit the settings of either network, so I do not have to changes setting every time I change networks??

Default

I'm assuming that this is maybe Bigpond dialup & U of Q you are connecting to? I just had mine on permanent 'auto detect' when I did the same with these 2 before. Have you tried using auto detect at home as well?

Default Been there, done that

Thanks for the quick repsonse, Matauri. You were just 1800km out- Ozemail & JCU.

I had tried to make the home ADSL connection previously without the home network connected, with the host pc set on auto detect for IP and DNS addresses, but it did not work.

Then Ozemail gave me the set addresses - all 5 of them.

any other suggestion are very much welcome.

Default connecting from home

Get a DSL router for home, it has DHCP and it will assign the IP automatically just like in school. You should not be using DSL without a router/firewall protection. It opens you up to the net.
