Default phpbb forums are automatically logged out a second after logging in

I don't know about this but when I'm at school, phpbb based forums are automatically logged out a second after I log in. I have created the Programmers' forum. When I'm at home, there's no problem at all. I was given the impression that phpbb doesn't allow users to access the forum with a single public ip address. However, I asked some of my colleagues in a software development company to try to simultaneously access the forum, but they found no problem. Could it be the firewall? Our university is using Juniper for firewall. I tried another phpbb based forum and the problem is still the same.

Very interesting.

The same happened to me on a Norwegian professional site wednesday. I have contacted the company. They are looking at the problem.

It seems to be browser independent.

Can the reason be software that you have downloaded?

I now have a policy of not downloading any (aside for what is needed to surf the web) software on my computer unless it is bought.

General advice:
  1. Be careful with third party toolbars.
  2. Be careful with plugins.
  3. Use a browser you rely on.
  4. Don't surf the web as an administrator.

I really don't think it's software related because the same happens when I visit the computer laboratory. I've tried quite a few PCs and the problem seems the same. I think it has something to do with the server security. I don't know a lot of their configuration but I know they are using Cisco routers, a Windows 2003 for the web server, and Juniper for firewall. Juniper's pretty tough, but I also cannot disregard the router configurations or the web server. I'll be trying an online tunnel to access the forums and see if there's a difference. I'll get back with the results.

Personally I experienced problems on my computer at different times:
  1. When I installed the Google toolbar.
  2. The next time when I installed the Google chrome browser?
Was it coincidence?

It might have been just a plug-ins problem. My observation with phpbb forums aren't browser dependent because some of the PCs I tested were just plain Internet explorer with no additional plug-ins installed. I'll try to test further. Were you testing phpbb based forums?

I have got an answer from the company, but that may not solve your problem. I cite the answer (in case it can help you).
  1. We think that cookies don't reach us.
  2. Check the firewall on your computer or contact the person that is responsible for the network.
  3. With Fiddler can we see if that is the problem.

I hope it's not the firewall. I really don't have control over it because it is located at the server room which is a very restricted area, and I'm not very good at hacking hehehe.

hmmm... I'll try visiting your site there also. If things are the same, then I might have to use tunnels just to get things going. Thanks.

This phpBBHacks.com - phpBB hacks, mods, templates, styles, downloads, support and much more! is a well known site. May be you can improve your skills there.

But my advice is:

Only hack your own forum or those who invite you to do it. IMO it is criminal both to destroy ordinary as well as eProperty

Have you heard about "Norwegian DVD John"? (Yahoo him)

My son studying law in Bergen, Norway is soon able to hack Google's thoughts and internal secrets.

The problem is that he likes them better than me.

In my opinion there is too little content on Google's site. There is much more content on Yahoo's site.

So here I only directly link to Yahoo.

Back to topic: Can fiddler http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/version.asp

help you?

How to use fiddler:
  1. Install fiddler from the above link.
  2. Start your browser and go to the site where you have problems (Don't log in now).
  3. Start Fiddler.
  4. Log into the site.
  5. Go into fiddler and choose the website in the left menu and choose "inspectors" and "headers" on the right side etc.
Experiment with that.

If that does not help, come back and post here. This thread is now on WPW's frontpage some days, so other members may come up with a better solutions. I soon log out. Good luck.

If you solve the problem, post the solution here, since that may help other members / surfers.

If this is happening only at one location, on one network, with multiple sites built on the same platform, it definitely sounds like some sort of firewall or defensive system is affecting the cookies that are being sent to keep you logged in. I would suggest using a tool like HTTPFox (a Firefox plugin if you use Firefox) to monitor the cookies being exchanged with the site, and compare that to the cookies when you access the site from outside this network.

I think I found the problem now. It's in the Linksys wireless access point that we are using. There are many zones and I tried using others. It worked. It's not Juniper as all other zones are filtered by it but there's no problem. It is only on this particular zone that passes through the linksys router that has a problem.
