I'm wondering if anyone here knows some script (php) that would create a subdomain and ftp account that could access only that subdomain folder. I wanted to give users who register to my site, a subdomain where they can upload their files.

Which control panel are you using?
cPanel for example has a remote API which allows you to create accounts and so on. Other panels have different APIs, therefore script would need to be for the correct panel. |

fantastico is an addon that runs under cPanel for installing various scripts.
If you have a reseller account then you can create a new account on demand which is a subdomain of your main domain and each will act as your current account does although you can limit the functions available via cPanel. The issue there is you'll have a limit on the number of accounts you can create unless you have your own dedicated server. Have a dig through PHP Web Hosting Tools Script and Programs :: Hot Scripts and you'll probably find something you can customise for this. If you don't have a reseller account then you would need a script to add an FTP user and subdomain to your site, however again there's normally limits on the number of FTP and subdomains you can have per account. You can get around the subdomain limit by setting a wildcard and then using PHP/.htaccess to pull the data from the correct folders for each user, this just leaves FTP access. Again there should be something at hostscripts to do the job, or could you upload via forms? |

Take a look at your cpanel options, see under hosting or reseller hosting. There are tools for dealing with that online (creating, billing and managing accounts on the go).
