Question Help with 301 getting error 500

I redesigned my site and eliminated some pages. For the pages I eliminated I put in a 301 redirect in the .htacess file. Now I get an error 500 for the site when the reditects are taken out the website is fine I have contacted customer support about this several times I basically get the run around.

My question is there anything I can do on my end to redirect the indexed deleted pages to the new pages? Any suggestions or help would be appreated I really do not know much about servers.

What is the redirect rule, as you entered it in the .htaccess file?

The last two rules look like they are the problem. There can not be a line break in the rule.

Hi,

I agree with wige about the line breaks.

On top of that, I don't think you can use %20 within the rules. Replace each %20 by a space and use ". Example:

Replace
Code:
redirect 301 /about%20us.html http://www.lt1tips.com/about-us.html
by
Code:
redirect 301 "/about us.html" http://www.lt1tips.com/about-us.html

Hey , I want to thank the both of you for helping me when my own hosting company techs are idiots . I removed the line break and the %20 and put in the quotation marks and wha la it redirects.

Thanks a million
Mike

I think this is not a client side problem, but i know you can resolve it by looking at your logs carefully and analyze it.
