Free Forum needed for Website
Hi
I am building a website for a charity. It needs a forum. Does anyone know of a free forum I can use for this? It can be either on my host or off. Preferably with minimum advertising.
The hosting I'm using is windows based with ASP.Net, database and everything else support.
Any guidance or recommendations would be much apppreciated as I have never set up a forum before.
Regards
Rich

Both of the above solutions will work under the assumption that your host has PHP installed.
As for ASP forums that you can host: Snitz Forums 2000 and Toast Forums
Remotely Hosted Free Forums:
ProBoards.com - Free Remotely Hosted Message Boards
ezboards.com

You might want to investigate setting up your own Web 2.0 social networking community.
I've used ning . It's free if you use a subdomain of theirs, really quick to set up and there's a basic forum built in. It's a bit different but much more user friendly than your traditional V-Bulletin type forums.

Sorry to be such a spoiler as it is a charity, but in the long run would be better to buy & have full control of your own web space.you are at the mercy of the "free" provider who at any time can sell or assign the web space/blog or whatever to anybody they like.you could become well established with good search engine ratings when the space is sold to a porn/spam or worse... company. the only thing you could do is put up with it or start again losing everything you worked for. It would be money worth spending.Be in control from the start dont take a chance this charity must be important to you don't get hijacked the chance is very remote but there if you become very successful.
good luck.

Get hosting with GoDaddy. They have 2 or 3 free forums you can use. They are also very helpful on setting it up.

You might consider one of the free open source CMS content management systems out there, three are several good ones that have community forums modules built in, along with a variety of other nifty modules (including some specialty add on modules) that could (probably) be of use to them.

I use forumhog.com. It is totally free, easy to sign up for, fully customizable, and it doesn't have a bunch of annoying adds. The tech support is also outstanding.

Another option is websitetoolbox.com who provide hosted forums. It does cost a few dollars a month but it's ad free and easy to use. In fact you can add adsense to it so it pays for itself.

Re: Free Forum needed for Website
phpBB2 is your best bet for learning (IMO), it does not need linux, it has the largest database of add-ons and because of its already long lifetime, it has a massive and helpful user-base in its support forums.
Just try it out on this host : free forum
Hope this can help!
